Linseed
The Olive
For Linseed Journal we explored the Strigils, an object used by Ancient Greeks and Romans to cleanse their bodies. Athletes applied a mix of oil and exfoliants like sand or pumice, which was scraped off using strigils. These curved tools, often custom-made and engraved, collected residue valued for its supposed healing properties. The most prized ointments came from famous athletes who oiled their bodies before exercising.
